Research in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University centers on major scientific questions about biodiversity, global change, and the mechanisms that shape biological systems across scales. Our research is organized around six synergistic areas that reflect the Department’s collective strengths and strategic priorities.

Each of these thematic areas reflects a commitment to rigorous, question-driven science. Faculty collaborate across traditional disciplinary boundaries, often developing or deploying innovative quantitative approaches to data-rich and model-intensive problems.
