Message from President Andrea Goldsmith

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

I am deeply honored to congratulate my first graduating class in my inaugural Commencement as Stony Brook’s seventh president. I join our entire Seawolf community in sharing my pride and admiration for your dedication and determination that have brought you to this very special day. This momentous occasion marks not only an extraordinary milestone in your life, but the beginning of the next chapter of impact you are ready to make in the world.

The Class of 2026 embodies curiosity, creativity, resilience, and a spirit of excellence that will serve each of you exceptionally well as you embark on the next chapter in your personal and professional lives. We look forward to seeing the positive impact you will have in the years ahead as alumni of this outstanding university, the number one public university in the great state of New York.

Over the past year, I have been deeply inspired by you: your partnership, your kindness, and the way you welcomed me so warmly into this community. Some of my most meaningful moments as president have been with you: meeting you during Student Lifetime or walking across the Academic Mall, collaborating with student leaders, cheering on our athletics teams right here in this stadium with Wolfie, the most spirited and adorable mascot in the country, watching your extraordinary artistic and musical performances, seeing your research presentations, and sharing unique Stony Brook traditions together. Each of these moments reminded me how thoughtful, compassionate, talented, and vibrant our students are, and how much joy this role brings me because of you.

Your achievements and excellence set a high standard and inspire fellow students to follow the path of greatness you have worked so hard to maintain. The Class of 2026 joins over 237,000 alumni worldwide: this is a network not only of individuals who have proven themselves in the academic world, but also a community in which you now have a lifelong place. We hope you remain connected to this remarkable group of professionals and remember that you have a strong force cheering you on in all of your future endeavors.

As alumni, I hope you will carry this phrase with you always once a Seawolf, always a Seawolf! Stony Brook University thanks you for your contributions, and for the many ways you have amplified our Seawolf spirit!

Congratulations and best wishes,

Andrea Goldsmith
