Tuesday, February 2, 2021 8:45AM: Update: Inclement Weather - Classes Canceled

To the Campus Community,

After further assessment of regional conditions, and in consideration of the ongoing snow removal efforts as well as the forecast for the remainder of the day, all classes scheduled for today, Tuesday February 2, are canceled. This includes all in-person, hybrid and online classes.

All staff that are presently working remotely should continue to do so.  All other staff can work remotely, pending approval of their supervisors.  All essential employees that have been reporting to campus and are required to do so during inclement weather emergencies should report according to their prescribed schedules and direct specific questions to their immediate supervisors or their designee.

This applies to Stony Brook main campus, SB Southampton and Stony Brook Manhattan campuses and includes the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health Technology & Management, School of Social Welfare, and the Dental School. Students with clinical obligations should make every effort to attend rotations and contact their clinical coordinators with any questions or concerns.

The University Medical Center and the Long Island State Veterans Home will remain open and operating under regular schedules.

Please note that only the Governor of New York State can close state offices, agencies, and campuses. When offices are open, all State and Research Foundation employees are expected to report to work. During emergencies non-essential employees may request supervisory approval to charge their accruals when offices are open. Essential employees must report in accordance with their schedules.

Please also note, University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home employees are all deemed 'essential' and therefore must report to work.  This also applies to employees designated as 'essential' in certain areas assigned to West Campus that deliver Health and related services.

All campus COVID testing sites, including the New York State testing site in the South P Lot are closed today.

Please continue to monitor your Stony Brook University email and the University website in the event further event cancellations and schedule adjustments become necessary.  Please also check departmental websites for adjusted hours.
