Individuals Impacted by Global Conflict Scholarship

In support of students whose education has been impacted by global conflict, Stony Brook University offers the following scholarship opportunities. Scholarships  are limited. Please review all qualifications and details before submitting an application. Questions can be directed to globalaffairs@stonybrook.edu.

Required Qualifications

    • Proof of citizenship (valid passport or Refugee Travel Document) from a country designated for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) by USCIS.  Students from other countries may be considered on a space-available basis.
    • Applicant is responsible for their own travel to Stony Brook University.  Stony Brook is unable to support relocation costs.
    • Certification that applicant's ability to study has been impacted by global conflict.
    • Students must be admitted to their academic program at Stony Brook University.  Program application can be submitted after the scholarship application and an initial eligibility review. 

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants meeting the below qualifications will be given preference for scholarships:

    • Currently approved for TPS, Refugee, Asylee, or other Humanitarian Parole status in the U.S.
    • Documented ability to arrive in the U.S. for the start of the Fall Semester.
    • Previously received this scholarship for Academic English study through the Intensive English Center (IEC).

Scholarship details

Current, active students studying in an overseas university or at Stony Brook University may apply to receive one or more of the following scholarships:

Tuition and Fee Scholarship
Full tuition scholarship covering the cost of Stony Brook tuition and all associated fees.

On-Campus Housing Scholarship
Stony Brook University will waive the cost of on-campus housing.

Meal Plan Scholarship
Stony Brook University will provide a free standard meal plan.

Academic Programs
Scholarships are available for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Intensive Academic English study. Before submitting an application, please review Stony Brook University's academic departments and majors. Some degree programs may have limited capacity.

Intensive English Center

Program Duration
Program start dates coincide with Stony Brook's Academic Calendar. Scholarships are for a period of one (1)  academic year, starting in the Fall Semester.  Students may apply annually to renew their scholarship through completion of their academic program, pending the availability of funds and an evaluation of  financial need and academic progress toward degree completion.

Intensive English scholarship recipients graduating Level 104 in the Fall Semester may be considered to begin undergraduate study in the Spring term as a fully admitted undergraduate student, but must submit a new scholarship application for their undergraduate academic program for the following Fall Semester.

    • Previous Transcripts (official transcripts are preferred, but we will accept unofficial transcripts)
    • Proof of Language Proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo)
    • Completed Financial Aid Application Form (may include a locally submitted FAFSA-like form or questionnaire)
