Welcome from the Director, Dr. Wali Karzai

Welcome to the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) at Stony Brook University!  The mission of the CID is to foster interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research and training in microbial pathogenesis, immunity to infection and antimicrobial drug discovery.  The interdisciplinary nature of our mission is reflected in our Faculty, who have appointments in five different Departments: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology.  The CID maintains state-of-the-art interdepartmental research laboratory space and equipment to facilitate collaborative discoveries. Our goal of training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to become future leaders in the field is realized through our own seminar series, our participation in several exceptional graduate programs and the NIH-funded Molecular and Cell Biology of Infectious Diseases Training Program for PhD students.  Together with other outstanding Faculty in other Departments, including Medicine, and the new Global Health Institute, the CID is leading a strong community of researchers at Stony Brook who are committed to understanding and preventing infectious diseases.  I invite you to learn more about the CID on this web site or by contacting us.
