  • Dean's Excellence Professorships for Teaching

    Dean’s Excellence Professorships for Teaching

    Dean’s Excellence Professorships for Teaching acknowledge our leading faculty in teaching impact as measured by factors that include innovative methods and technologies, student outcomes achievement, inclusive pedagogy, and broad impact on student success and professional development as informed by alumni feedback.  These awards typically carry a three-year term.

  • Teachers Rated Excellent Educators by their Students (TREES)

    Teachers Rated Excellent Educators by their Students (TREES)

    The TREES award recognizes approximately the top 10% of CEAS educators as rated by their students.  Instituted in Fall 2024, the award is given to instructors of CEAS Lectures and Labs who rate at the top of student course evaluations, with controls to account for the biasing factors of class size, class grade, class level, and class response rate.  The specific metric may vary from year to year.

  • Excellence in Teaching Award

    Excellence in Teaching Award

    The CEAS Excellence in Teaching Award goes to outstanding CEAS faculty who consistently demonstrate superior teaching, both in the classroom and beyond.  CEAS faculty and others in an instructional role are eligible for this award.  Nominations are collected annually by CEAS faculty, staff and students.

    Excellence in Mentorship Award

    The CEAS Excellence in Mentorship Award  goes to outstanding faculty who distinguish themselves by providing exceptional mentorship for junior faculty, postdocs and/or students of any level (graduate, undergraduate, high school).  CEAS faculty  are eligible for this award.  Nominations are collected annually by CEAS faculty, postdocs and students.

Spotlight

Esther Sans Takeuchi is a distinguished professor at Stony Brook University with a joint appointment as a chief scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. She holds more than 150 U.S. patents. In 2009, she received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Obama, the top honor awarded in the United States for technological achievement. She ranks among the research elite.
