The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Stony Brook University’s faculty body includes distinctions such as 67 NSF CAREER awards; 16 SUNY Distinguished Professorships; members of the National Academy of Engineering; as well as recipients of the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology.

Dean Andrew Singer Interviewed by TBR News Media

Andrew Singer, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, was interviewed by TBR News Media. In the article, Singer states that his goal for CEAS is to see the school increase "from 5,000 total students, including 3,500 undergraduates, to as many as 10,000 students." He believes that this growth is possible because there is high demand for an education from Stony Brook University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Faculty Reviewers Honored by Office for Research and Innovation

Having faculty support for seed grant programs and limited competitions by peer reviewing is key to this mission. This contribution ensures investments are made for the most promising seed projects, and that the most competitive ideas are representing the institution. The Office of Proposal Development within the OR&I recently hosted a reception recognizing the significant contributions of researchers in the peer review process. Division of Undergraduate Education Names 2025 Faculty Fellows

The Faculty Fellows program, run by the Division of Undergraduate Education, assists professors in developing and implementing innovative, experimental teaching strategies. This year’s faculty fellows are Anurag Purwar, associate professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Tony Scarlatos, senior lecturer and director of the computer science multimedia lab, Department of Computer Science.

Three SBU Faculty Awarded SUNY-IBM AI Research Alliance Grants

Professor Erez Zadok, Professor Michael Ferdman, and Professor Niranjan Balasubramanian of the Department of Computer Science were among 14 researchers from the State University of New York’s four university centers who have been awarded 2024 SUNY-IBM AI Research Alliance grants. The alliance is part of a partnership between New York State and IBM to create a global research hub for developing next-generation AI hardware.

Djurić as Lead Guest Editor of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine

Petar M. Djurić, a distinguished professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and fellow of IEEE, EURASIP, AAIA, and AIIA, is serving as Lead Guest Editor of a special issue of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine on methodological advances in causal inference. This magazine is the most influential and widely read journal in the signal processing community. Causality is essential for the next generation of AI because it helps systems understand why things happen instead of just spotting patterns, which makes AI more trustworthy, easier to explain, and better at adapting to new situations.
