I Am a Seawolf: Diversity
Welcome to the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer!
This office was established in 2017 in accordance with the Stony Brook University’s Plan for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity in our collective efforts to strengthen and enhance our campus community to become even more diverse, equitable and inclusive.
To that end, we strive to create a safe and welcoming learning and living environment for every member of our campus.
Building a Community of Respect
As a campus community, we have a responsibility to respect each student, faculty and staff member as a human being and an individual, so that each one can achieve their goals.
How do we demonstrate that respect? Civility is the language of respect, and refers to a set of organizing principles and rules that govern our behavior as members of a community. On campus there are layers of these expectations, including the Code of Conduct, the Terms of Occupancy for Residence Halls, class ground rules, and the Community Pledge.
