About the ASTC

In June 2012, Dr. Charles Robbins, former Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges, assembled a group of approximately twenty professional staff with the goal of identifying and addressing issues that impact student academic success.

This Academic Success Team was instrumental in initiating the creation of the Academic Success and Tutoring Center (ASTC).

A director and assistant director of the ASTC were selected in the fall of 2013 and have been working to create a centralized location where students can seek support to ensure their academic success.

In the fall of 2014, a physical location for the center was identified and the ASTC established a temporary home in the Psychology B building, room 120.

In July 2021, the ASTC became a proud tenant of the newly renovated Stony Brook Union. The 3,500 sq. ft. tutoring center includes private and collaborative spaces for students to enjoy.

The ASTC staff encourages your feedback and welcomes the opportunity to provide additional information about the vision for the center.
