About the Academic Success and Tutoring Center
Our Mission
The Academic Success and Tutoring Center (ASTC) supports Stony Brook University’s
mission of ensuring a comprehensive, high quality undergraduate education by providing
services that complement classroom instruction and encourage student success. Through
collaborative efforts with academic departments and student services, the ASTC enhances,
promotes, and develops tutorial and academic success programs, and is committed to
creating an inclusive, supportive, student-centered learning environment, which stimulates
critical thinking and productive learning.
In July 2021, the ASTC became a proud tenant of the newly renovated Stony Brook Union. The 3,500 sq. ft. tutoring center includes private and collaborative spaces for students to enjoy.
The ASTC staff encourages your feedback and welcomes the opportunity to provide additional information about the vision for the center.
History
In 2012, Dr. Charles Robbins, former Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and
Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges, assembled a group of approximately twenty professional
staff with the goal of identifying and addressing issues that impact student academic
success.
This Academic Success Team was instrumental in initiating the creation of the Academic Success and Tutoring Center (ASTC).
