CFNS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
CFNS has two fellowship programs to work on the Electron-Ion Collider activities: CFNS Postdoctoral Fellows are located at CFNS, Stony Brook full-time. CFNS-University Joint Postdoctoral Fellows spend 30%-50% of their time at CFNS, Stony Brook, and the rest at their home institutions.

CFNS-University Joint Postdoctoral Fellow Appointments:
Location: 75% Partner University and 25% CFNS, Stony Brook
Focus: Electron-Ion Collider science, detector technologies and related activities.
CFNS pays half of the base salary for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at a remote
institution (University or Research Laboratory) to help seed research projects on
EIC. The postdoctoral fellow spends a majority of their time at the remote institution,
and a fraction of the time at CFNS, Stony Brook. CFNS provides travel support for
the postdoctoral fellow for this program.
Tenure-track faculty at Universities and staff members at national laboratories who are interested in partnering with CFNS to create a joint research project through a shared postdoctoral fellowship at your institution are invited to submit proposals. Edward Bouchet Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Location: CFNS, Stony Brook
Focus: EIC science and mentoring
In 2023 we announced the first Edward Bouchet (EB) Post Doctoral Fellowship at Stony Brook University, intended for an exceptional scientist interested in working on experimental aspects of the EIC and
with deep interest in promoting underrepresented minorities (URMs) in nuclear and
particle physics.
The EB Fellow works closely with Prof. Abhay Deshpande on the science of EIC, and
on reaching out and mentoring URMs. In addition, the Fellow has freedom to work on
one of the ongoing experimental projects at CFNS (for example activities at Brookhaven
National Laboratory, Jefferson Lab, Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), TRIUMF and the
South Pole). This position is aimed at candidates who are interested and committed
to advising and mentoring underrepresented minority (undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D.)
students and junior postdocs. The EB Fellow will work closely with similar programs
around the country and particularly with students from the newly created Simons STEM Scholars program at Stony Brook university and the Nuclear Physics Training (NPT) Program at BNL.
