Guiding Sophomores Toward Success
Peer mentors act as role models and assist sophomore students with their transition into upperclass academic and professional life within the College of Business (CoB) at Stony Brook University to ensure their persistence and success as high-achieving business and accounting majors. They help students gain knowledge about Stony Brook University, CoB, and the various resources, activities, and programs we have to offer. Mentors also encourage long-lasting connections with CoB students, staff, and faculty while assisting with any transitional issues students may have. They help and support their mentees and act as a readily available resource for them.

Meet the team of Bridge to Success Mentors – experienced students who know what it's like to navigate the College of Business. They're here to answer your questions, share what they've learned, and help you feel confident and connected as you move into your sophomore year.
Danny Tran
Danny Tran is a Business Management student at Stony Brook University with an interest in logistics and supply chain management. Through his experience as an SBU 101 Fellow, he enjoys supporting students as they navigate college life. As a peer mentor, he hopes to help students build confidence, find campus resources, and develop meaningful connections. Outside academics, Danny enjoys aviation and flight simulation.
Deven Goyal
Hey! I’m a senior at Stony studying Finance and Psychology. Stony has given so much to me and helped me professionally and academically. I plan to work at Equitable Advisors, a F500 company, after graduation and work my way up as a financial advisor.
Emily Chen
Emily is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Business Management with a specialization in Operations Management and Marketing as well as a minor in Asian and Asian American Studies. She volunteers at the Stony Brook Hospital, is the treasurer of the Pre-Genetic Counseling Society, outreach for VAW Medical Global Health Alliances, and is a member of the Women in Business Organization. She has a sweet tooth and loves desserts, and enjoys walking around the city and looking for fun things to do.
Maimuna Chowdhury
I am a current junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Business Management with a concentration in Finance. I am currently involved in being an RA on campus, and have worked jobs at the library and humanities office. I love spending time hanging out with my friends, getting boba, and crafting!
Qi Bin Chen
Qi Bin is a senior at Stony Brook University studying Business Management with minors in Accounting and Finance. An aspiring CPA with hands-on tax experience, he has served as an Intermediate Accounting Teaching Assistant and Graduate School Student Assistant. Outside of academics, Qi Bin enjoys meeting new people and trying new experiences. As a mentor, he looks forward to sharing practical advice on navigating coursework and landing internships.
Saumya Nathani
Hi! I'm Saumya, a rising senior at Stony Brook University majoring in Business Management with specializations in Marketing, Finance, and Operations Management, along with a minor in Real Estate. I'm involved on campus as a Business Peer Mentor, Undergraduate Fellow, International Student Ambassador, Orientation Leader, and a member of the Business Student Advisory Board. I enjoy meeting new people, exploring New York City, and I'm always happy to chat about classes, internships, career opportunities, or anything Stony Brook!
Sophia Bronder-Chang
Sophia is a senior at Stony Brook, double majoring in Psychology and Business Management with a specialization in Marketing. She got involved on campus through the Taiwanese Students Association as their Secretary. She is a research assistant in the Psychology Department, and is an office assistant for the Office of Advancement. She loves to dance and is in a dance group with her friends!
William An
William is a junior at Stony Brook University, majoring in Business Management with a specialization in Finance. Outside of school, he enjoys managing his investment portfolio and diving into creative projects like graphic design. He's also a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan and is involved on campus with clubs like Beta Alpha Psi and the Korean Student Association. And most importantly, he's excited to support you and help you navigate your college journey!

What You'll Gain and What's Required
Benefits
- Earn 1 credit of BUS 488 (Internship) per semester.
- Build new networking opportunities with other student leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, and other industry professionals.
- Improve leadership, interpersonal communication, and time management skills necessary for any career.
- Practice and teach goal setting strategies to successfully meet short- and long-term goals.
- Help to shape the culture and climate within the CoB by serving as a role model for a rising sophomore.
Requirements
- Full-time Business Management or Accounting major (with area of specialization declared, if applicable).
- Junior or senior standing.
- Completed one full year at Stony Brook University.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and be in good disciplinary standing.
- Have no active academic integrity violations.
- Be involved on campus and have a good knowledge of CoB and Stony Brook resources.

As the backbone of this program, our mentors play a vital role in shaping the student experience while developing their own potential. This position offers hands-on opportunities to strengthen key leadership skills, engage with faculty in impactful ways, and form lasting connections with a supportive team of fellow mentors.
Through their role, mentors will:
Develop strong leadership, communication, time management, and other soft skills to further their professional growth.
Develop close connections with College of Business faculty and staff that will help prepare them for life after college.
Connect with fellow mentors to form a strong, supportive community of engaged student leaders.
