Amira Gbagba ‘25

Vice President for Student Affairs Rick Gatteau introduced student speaker Amira Gbagba, who graduated with a bachelor of science in applied mathematics and statistics, completed an internship at Brookhaven National Laboratory and earned an award from the National Mathematical Association of America. Gbagba said that — statistically speaking — someone in the 2025 graduating class is going to do “something huge.”

2025 Woo Jong Kim Dissertation Prize recipient. Established in memory of the late Professor Woo Jong Kim, a long-standing faculty member in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, this annual prize is awarded for the best dissertation in the department.

Valentina Tillman

For exhibiting a bright future in statistics, Valentina Tillman was recognized with the 2025 Nancy Mendell Scholarship. In honor of Professor Emeritus Nancy Mendell, this scholarship supports a promising female graduate student pursuing research in that field.
