Ramon Grima's specialty is uncovering how randomness at the molecular scale shapes life at the cellular scale — using chemical master equations to reveal how noisy gene expression drives cell-fate decisions, cellular heterogeneity, and the strategies cells use to control their own variability. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Arizona State University in 2005, then completed postdoctoral positions at Indiana University Bloomington and Imperial College London before joining the University of Edinburgh's School of Biological Sciences in 2008, where he progressed from assistant to full professor while building a research program bridging mathematical biology and single-cell stochastic modeling. Since Summer 2026, he has been the Ken A. Dill Endowed Professor of Physical and Quantitative Biology at the Laufer Center at Stony Brook University, where he continues his work on modeling stochastic gene expression.
