She is currently completing an Honors Thesis research in Dr. James Konopka’s lab, supported by a URECA grant. Shivani has presented research at university and SUNY conferences and is a published author in Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews. She has participated in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Summer Scholars Program, studying methods of host DNA depletion. She is an EMT with Port Jefferson EMS and Director of Camp Kesem, supporting children affected by a parent’s cancer.

Through the research experience, she hopes to further the work that has been done on Type 3 secretion systems. She looks forward to connecting with people in the field and serving as a mentor long after the grant while exploring a new part of the world and furthering her research knowledge.

Nicolas is a part of the Honors College on campus.
