Heshwin Singh is a Stony Brook University graduate whose work bridges science, education, and community impact. She has been extensively involved in research at Stony Brook, driven by a deep curiosity to explore the human mind through neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy. Her work reflects a commitment to understanding people through multiple lenses, integrating scientific inquiry with broader humanistic perspectives. Through the Fulbright program, Heshwin aims to expand her global perspective and deepen her understanding of the human mind through diverse intellectual and cultural experiences.

Through the Fulbright Research Grant to Singapore, she aims to contribute to ongoing work on cervical spinal cord stimulation mapping for the development of novel bioelectronic interfaces. This project builds on her prior research experiences in the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Stony Brook University, where she was involved in neuroscience-focused investigations and contributed to work aimed at understanding neural function and translational applications. In Singapore, she hopes to further develop her skills in neuroengineering and neural interface research within an interdisciplinary environment, with the goal of advancing how engineered systems can interface with the nervous system to improve clinical and functional outcomes.

She is eager to further develop her understanding of neuroengineering approaches that bridge basic neuroscience and clinical application, particularly in the context of translational medicine. Beyond the technical aspects of the project, she is especially excited to engage with a global healthcare perspective in Singapore, learning how different systems approach innovation, patient care, and biomedical research. This experience will deepen her understanding of medicine as a global, interdisciplinary field as she immerses herself in Singapore's culture.
