Evelyn Li

Phd Student, Neuroscience
Fulbright US Student Program
Evelyn Li is a first-year neuroscience PhD student interested in how the brain encodes sensory input, with a focus on the neural circuits underlying pain. Her interest in sensory processing is rooted in early experiences caring for a family member with chronic pain. Prior to Stony Brook, she completed her undergraduate education at Vassar College and later conducted postbaccalaureate research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she studied human pain pathways.
Winning this fellowship feels like a turning point where she is beginning to see herself as an emerging independent neuroscientist with the opportunity to shape her own academic path. Evelyn is most excited to take real ownership of her research, and having the support of the NSF GRFP gives her the freedom to explore the scientific questions that catalyzed her passion for science in the first place.
Evelyn is a part of the CIE on campus.
