Research Goal

The Neutrino and Nucleon decay (NN) Group research goal is to futher pursue discoveries of new and rare phenomena (such as neutrino oscillations, proton decay, neutrinos from supernovae, etc.), and to make precision measurements of lepton mixing matrix elements including the CP violating phase. In order to achieve this goal we are currently involved in the on-going experiment T2K. In the past, we were involved in the K2K experiment that was completed in 2007, and Super-Kamiokande that is still taking data. The group is involved in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) at Fermilab, a leading-edge, international experiment for neutrino science and proton decay studies. The NN Group was originally established with Prof. Jung's DOE OJI award.

  • December 10, 2025: Mo Jia successfully defended his thesis. Congratulations to Dr. Jia!
  • December 2025: Shivam Joshi join the group as postdoc.
  • October 2025: Megan Kelly-Beaury joins the group as Administrative Assistant.
  • June 2025: Tristan Doyle starts a new postdoc at the University of Oxford. We wish him all the best in this new chapter!

  • May 2025: Harrison Wolf defende his master’s thesis titled "Study of Modeling Neutron Interactions in the SuperFGD Prototype Through Simulation".
  • March 2025: Vlada Yevarouskaya finally could come to SBU since her VISA was approved.
  • September 19th, 2024: Tristan Doyle gives the plenary on T2K at NuFact 2024.
  • September 1st, 2024: Ciro Riccio starts his position as Assistant Professor.
  • May 15, 2024: HEP team loose the Soccer Tournament final agaist Astro.
  • April 29, 2024: Jacob Larkin, supervised by Elizabeth Worcester and Chang Kee Jung, successfully defended his thesis on the muon neutrino disapperance search in ICARUS.
  • April 2024: the NN group is officially out ot the Super-Kamiokande (SK) Collaboration after 33 years. It is the end of an era for the group that was the first US group to enter in SK in 1991.
  • March 2024: Vlada Yevarouskaya joins our group as postdoc.
  • February 2024: Kuunal Mahtani and Haowei Zheng win the BNL Ozaki exchange program.
