Honors Programs students at Stony Brook can mentor peers while building leadership and communication skills. The Honors College Ambassadors Program pairs experienced students with incoming freshmen to support their transition to college. The Honors College TA Program allows students to guide first-year students in HON 101 classes, fostering community and personal growth. Mentors can also participate in events like the Mentor Mingle, Honors College Welcome Event Panels, and Admitted Students Day panels, sharing insights and connecting with new and prospective students. These opportunities provide valuable experience and make a lasting impact on the Honors community.

Each year, a select group of Honors College students is chosen to serve as Honors College Ambassadors to mentor incoming first-year students. During New Seawolf Welcome Week, each Ambassador is paired with a group of incoming Honors College students, or “Mentees,” and becomes an important resource throughout their first year.

Ambassadors help ease the transition to college by building connections, hosting meetups and coffee chats, inviting Mentees to campus events, sharing professional and social opportunities, and offering guidance during important milestones such as Advance Registration Week.

More than mentors, our Ambassadors help foster a sense of belonging and community. The Honors College is truly a family, and the Honors College Ambassadors Program welcomes our newest Seawolves with open arms!

The Honors College TA Program provides experienced Honors students with opportunities to develop leadership skills while supporting their peers. TAs assist instructors in teaching HON 101, an introductory course designed to introduce first-year students to the values, expectations, and opportunities within the Honors Programs.

As peer leaders and role models, Honors TAs share their experiences, provide guidance, and help new students navigate and acclimate to college life. Through this experience, TAs strengthen their leadership, communication, and teaching skills while contributing to the Honors College community.
