Over my first year leading this exceptional university, I have witnessed our excellence across every dimension of our mission: education, research, healthcare, and service, and our significant positive impact through that mission on our community, the state of New York, the country, and the world. It is the remarkable people of Stony Brook — our inspiring students, our passionate, brilliant faculty and dedicated staff, our compassionate healthcare teams, our visionary academic leaders, and our steadfast supporters and friends - that are the foundation of our excellence, the fuel behind our momentum, and the inspiration to propel our university to greater heights of achievement. This collective spirit infused our strategic planning process and shaped the ambitious goals reflected in this plan.

Stony Brook is a university of unlimited potential. We are nimble, resilient, and prepared to turn bold ideas into transformative action. ASPIRE 2035 is our North Star, guiding us through times of uncertainty and disruption toward a bright future of infinite possibilities. To achieve this vision we are betting big on strategic undertakings that will significantly advance Stony Brook’s excellence and impact across all dimensions of our mission.
