STEPS FOR STUDENT CONDUCT PROCESS

GENERAL PROCESS

A report is received by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.

The report is reviewed to determine if an alleged policy violation exists.

  • If "Yes," the process proceeds onto the next step.
  • If "No," an Informal Resolution marks the end of the process.

Student is notified of the allegations and one of the following procedures is initiated:

  • Student Conduct Meeting
  • Hearing

Once the procedure is complete, a decision is sent to the student.

  • If found responsible for a violation of policy, sanctions will be assigned. This marks the end of the process or the start of the Appeal Process.
  • If found not responsible for a violation of policy, no sanctions will be assigned, marking the end of the process.

GENERAL APPEAL PROCESS

Grounds for appeal are selected and submitted in writing within 7 calendar days of the decision notification. Grounds for appeal are:

  • Significant violation of student conduct procedures
  • New information, unavailable at the time of the hearing, has become available and could have substantially impacted the decision
  • The sanction(s) issued is/are disproportionate in relation to the student’s conduct record and/or nature of the violation

The appeal is reviewed by a designated University Official or Appeals Board.

Final decision is made and communicated to the student. The Original Decision is either:

  • Sustained (Denied)
  • Modified (Approved)
  • Overturned (Approved)

Once communicated, the final decision marks the end of the process.

  • Appeal decisions are final and not subject to further review.
