Share your experience and help shape the future of living on campus.

Campus Residences wants to hear about your experience living on campus. In partnership with Benchworks by Elentra, Campus Residences is conducting the Housing & Residence Life Survey to better understand the experiences of our residential students.

Benchworks by Elentra facilitates the survey and works with colleges and universities across the country to collect and benchmark student feedback. Your responses will help us understand what is working well, identify opportunities for improvement, and make informed decisions about the future residential experience.

How Do I Participate?

Eligible residential students will receive an individual survey invitation at their Stony Brook email address when the survey opens.

Simply follow the link in your invitation to complete the survey. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and can be completed from a computer, tablet, or mobile device.

Your individual survey link is unique to you and should not be shared with others.

Who can participate?

All undergraduate and graduate students currently residing in Campus Residences housing.

Survey Giveaways

We want to hear from as many residents as possible — and we're giving away more than $18,000 in giveaways to more than 200 residents who complete the survey.

Completing the survey earlier gives you opportunities to be selected for some of the larger giveaways.

  • 2 students who complete the survey during the first week will each receive a $1,500 spring housing credit.
  • 4 students who complete the survey within the first two weeks will each receive a $1,000 spring housing credit.
  • 4 students who complete the survey within the first three weeks will each receive a $500 spring housing credit.
  • 15 students who complete the survey will each receive a $200 spring housing credit.
  • 100 students who complete the survey will each receive $50 in Wolfie Wallet funds.
  • 75 students who complete the survey will each receive a $10 Starbucks or Dunkin' voucher, courtesy of ASA.

Disclaimer: Housing credits are applied directly to the student's account and cannot be provided in another format or transferred to another individual. Students who cancel their spring housing are no longer eligible for a housing credit. Student Financial Services will determine how any credit is applied to existing balances. Recipients should be aware that receiving a housing credit may impact their financial aid eligibility or awards and should consider any potential implications. Residential students who receive full scholarships or full housing waivers are not eligible for housing credit giveaways. All giveaways are non-transferable.

The survey gives residents an opportunity to share feedback about many different parts of living on campus. Your responses help Campus Residences:

  • Understand what residents value most about their on-campus experience.
  • Identify areas where the residential experience can be improved.
  • Better understand the needs of different residential communities and student populations.
  • Inform future priorities, programs, services, resources, and initiatives.
  • Measure our progress over time.
  • Compare aspects of the Stony Brook residential experience with those at other participating colleges and universities.

Every response adds another perspective and gives us a more complete picture of the residential student experience.

What Is The Housing & Residence Life Survey?

The Housing & Residence Life Survey is a comprehensive survey designed to better understand students' experiences living on campus.

The survey is administered through Benchworks by Elentra, which works with colleges and universities to assess the student experience. In addition to helping us understand the experiences of Stony Brook residents, Benchworks allows Campus Residences to benchmark results against participating institutions.

This gives us an opportunity to look beyond individual survey responses and better understand our strengths, areas for improvement, and how the residential experience at Stony Brook compares with broader trends in campus housing.

What Will I Be Asked About?

The survey looks at the residential experience as a whole. Depending on your experience, you may be asked about topics including:

  • Community & Belonging
  • Student Staff & Residential Education
  • Your Room & Roommate Experience
  • Facilities & Residential Spaces
  • Safety & Support
  • Housing Services & Operations
  • Technology
  • Overall Residential Experience

Frequently Asked Questions

Participation in the Housing & Residence Life Survey is voluntary. However, we strongly encourage residents to participate. A greater number of responses gives us a more complete understanding of the residential student experience.

Your survey responses will be submitted to Benchworks by Elentra utilizing data encryption methodology (SSL). Benchworks by Elentra will provide your responses to this survey anonymously; e.g., your school will not be provided with your name in connection with your responses, unless there is an issue of safety, fraud, or misconduct, or it is legally required. See the Elentra Privacy Notice. The anonymous results of your survey responses will be utilized to evaluate the responses and possibly aggregate and use them in connection with its presentations, reports, and publications.

The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

If you are unable to find the email or did not receive it, please click on this generic survey link to access the survey. You will be prompted to enter your Stony Brook email to begin the survey.

Campus Residences reviews survey results to identify strengths, opportunities for improvement, trends, and priorities across the residential experience. Results may also be compared with previous survey results and Benchworks data from participating institutions.

Students who complete the survey and meet the applicable eligibility requirements will be entered into the corresponding incentive drawing(s).

Students are eligible for only one of the giveaways offered as part of the survey.

Giveaway winners will be notified in the weeks following the survey's closure.

Housing credits cannot be transferred or provided in another format. Students who cancel their spring housing are no longer eligible for the housing credit.

The credit will be applied to the student's account. Student Financial Services will determine how the credit is applied to any existing account balance.
