Join Stony Brook University President Andrea Goldsmith for her conversation with Helen A. Harrison, an art historian, museum director, journalist and author who specializes in modern American art.

In 1990, after serving as curator of the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, director of the Public Art Preservation Committee in Manhattan, and curator of Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, Harrison became director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, a National Historic Landmark and research collection in East Hampton administered by the Stony Brook Foundation. She retired from that position in 2024, and is now president of the Arts Center at Duck Creek, a historic artist’s site and cultural center in East Hampton.

Harrison wrote art reviews and feature articles for the Long Island section of The New York Times for 28 years, and her articles, essays and reviews have appeared in numerous scholarly and popular publications. Her Art of Murder mystery series, set in the New York and Hamptons art worlds, blends real and fictional characters in authentic settings.
