Biography:
F. Douglas Swesty is a Research Associate Professor at Stony Brook University. He
obtained his Ph. D. from Stony Brook University in 1993 and then joined the University
of Illinois as a postdoc and then later as a visiting assistant Professor. He joined
the Stony Brook faculty in 1999.
Research Statement:
My research interests are in the areas of computational physics and nuclear and relativistic
astrophysics. I am currently working on a problems: highly parallel algorithms for
radiation hydrodynamics and methods for quantifying uncertainty in numerical simulations.
Other areas of interest to me include numerical models of binary neutron star system
mergers, the explosion mechanism of core collapse supernovae, the neutrino signature
& gravitational wave signature of supernovae, general relativistic radiation hydrodynamics,
and the equation of state of hot, dense matter.
