The Revolution Will Be Manufactured: Carney to Explore the Path from Technical Innovation to Social Revolution at Seawolves Social Hour
Scientific and technological breakthroughs can transform society, but turning an innovative
idea into a world-changing technology requires more than discovery. It also requires
the ability to manufacture and deploy it at scale.
That journey from technical innovation to social revolution will be the focus of The Revolution Will Be Manufactured, the next Seawolves Social Hour event, taking place Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m. at The Inn at New Hyde Park.
P. Scott Carney, Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering in Stony Brook University’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, will lead a conversation examining how scientific advances in the 20th century reshaped society and the manufacturing breakthroughs that helped bring those advances into everyday life.
Seawolves Social Hour brings Stony Brook alumni together at locations across Long Island for opportunities to connect, catch up and engage with the University community. Each gathering features a new topic and perspective from Stony Brook faculty, offering alumni a chance to learn about the work and ideas shaping the University today. Recent events have explored subjects ranging from the geology of the moon and NASA’s Artemis program to environmental health and the factors that shape how we understand risk.
