The visit offered students an inside look at the engineering and manufacturing processes supporting advancements in aerospace technology, while also providing an opportunity to learn about career paths and connect with professionals in the field.

The visit was organized by Hailey Shehu, former President of Stony Brook’s ASME student chapter, who led students on a tour of the facility. Students also met with members of the GE Aerospace team, learning about the company’s engineering operations, equipment and technologies, including its computer-aided design (CAD) systems.

The experience provided students with an opportunity to connect with aerospace professionals, explore different areas of engineering and gain a better understanding of potential career paths in the field.

“It was an amazing experience to be able to learn about the premier and sustainable advancements in hypersonic aircraft engines happening at GE Aerospace in Bohemia, NY,” said Calvin Huang. “I enjoyed most being able to meet and talk with the employees of diverse backgrounds and saw an environment full of respect and continuous learning opportunities.”

For Anastasia Stankevych, the visit offered valuable perspective on the range of opportunities available within engineering.

“We were able to talk to multiple people and learn about different fields, look at the different processes in the company, and ask a lot of questions,” Stankevych said. “Overall, it was a very helpful experience and helped me understand more about what I’m looking for in the Engineering field.”

The visit reflects the Student AIAA chapter’s commitment to connecting Stony Brook engineering students with industry professionals and providing hands-on exposure to the aerospace field.
