Beyond AI: Quantum - SBU Experts and Industry Imagine the Quantum Future
On August 20, 2026, Douglas Monticciolo, CEO, CIO and Co-Founder of Brevet Capital,
partnered with Stony Brook University to host “Beyond AI: Quantum” at the Stony Brook University Southampton Campus. The event featured experts from
Stony Brook University and industry who examined the growing potential of quantum
technology and its implications for society.
P. Scott Carney, Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering, and Eden Figueroa Barragan, Professor
of Physics, Director of the Stony Brook Quantum Institute, and Joint Appointment at
Brookhaven National Laboratory, delivered featured presentations showcasing the amazing work being done at Stony Brook,
and the mind-blowing, life-changing impact that quantum technology will soon have
on our society. Carney discussed the path from fundamental innovation to mass manufacturing,
while Figueroa highlighted the quantum information network being developed by Stony
Brook 
researchers across Long Island.
Carney and Figueroa later joined Daniela Herrmann, Founder and CEO of Dynex; Vinh Vuong, Co-Founder and CEO of Garrison Fathom; and Stony Brook President Andrea Goldsmith for a lively panel discussion moderated by Monticciolo.
The event offered an engaging look at the rapidly evolving quantum landscape and the research and innovation underway at Stony Brook University.
