RESOURCES AND FACILITIES

Unique Facilities to Address Scientific Goals

I:SEE has access to world-class facilities.  The unique resources and capabilities available to this Center can be highlighted with five special facilities: the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) at Stony Brook University, the Interdisciplinary Science Building (ISB), National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), and Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

At Stony Brook University, the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) is home to I:SEE.

Funding

Governmental

Dr. Esther Takeuchi is the Founding Director, Dr. Amy Marschilok is the Director, and Dr. Kenneth Takeuchi is the Deputy Director and Strategist of the m2M's  Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science (m2M ; DOE EFRCs). Additionally, we have separate funding from both the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and Office of Electricity.

Our group has also been funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Industrial

We are currently funded by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America to study the fundamental science of battery systems on their behalf.

Philanthropic

Dr. Esther Takeuchi is the William and Jane Knapp Endowed Chair in Energy and the Environment, the first endowed chair position at Stony Brook University to support non-medically related research.

User Facilities

We have access to and regularly use the following user facilities:

  • Thermomechanical & Imaging Nanoscale Characterization (ThINC) facility located at AERTC
  • Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) located at BNL
  • National Synchrotron Light Source-II (NSLS-II) located at BNL
    • Beamlines we have used: HEX, XPD1, XPD2, SRX, ISS, QAS, XFM, BMM, SST

Instrumentation

Our group has the ability to conduct complex, interdisciplinary research using the previously mentioned User Facilities and our own array of laboratory instrumentation. If you would like to know more about our facilities, please feel free to contact us!
