Facilities

Stony Brook University Innovation connects industry with world-class faculty, researchers, students, and facilities. The Stony Brook University Research & Development Park is home to two State-designated Centers of Excellence: the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) and the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT). The campus also hosts two NYSTAR-funded Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs): the Center for Biotechnology and the Center for Grid Innovation Development and Deployment (GrIDD). Incubator space is available through the Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI).

Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC): Advances energy research and technology commercialization through academic, industry, and government partnerships. Its focus areas include offshore wind, grid modernization, energy storage, sustainable fuels, and decarbonization. AERTC also supports industry engagement and workforce development to accelerate New York’s clean energy transition.

Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT): A research and incubation center focused on accelerating technology development and commercialization. Its research spans healthcare and medicine; energy, sustainability, and climate; and cybersecurity and defense. CEWIT also supports workforce development through internships, hackathons, conferences, webinars, and other programs, while providing R&D collaboration and incubator resources for emerging companies.

Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI): A nonprofit incubator and accelerator supporting early-stage deep tech companies. LIHTI manages more than 100,000 square feet of laboratory, office, and shared space across multiple facilities and provides entrepreneurs with training, resources, and support to launch and grow new ventures. Areas of regional strength include biotechnology, cleantech, and infotech.

Center for Biotechnology: A NYSTAR Center for Advanced Technology that supports the development and commercialization of biomedical technologies and emerging companies in New York State. The Center bridges academic discovery and commercial success while helping train the next generation of biomedical leaders.

Center for Grid Development and Deployment (GrIDD): A NYSTAR Center for Advanced Technology focused on developing and integrating advanced technologies into electric energy systems. GrIDD works with industry partners and leverages the expertise and resources of Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory to advance grid innovation and deployment.
