of inventions, as well as preparing non-confidential material, developing and implementing
marketing strategies for each technology. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible
for drafting and negotiating terms of commercialization agreements and other agreements
including, but not limited to, options, licenses, material transfer agreements and
confidentiality agreements. The incumbent may supervise interns and other junior members
of the licensing team. The incumbent may occasionally need to function as an alliance
manager on ad-hoc basis for collaborations associated with technologies in their portfolio.

The Senior Director acts as an Authorized Organizational Representative with delegated
authority to sign proposals, negotiate agreements, and accept awards on behalf of
the university and its key partner, the Research Foundation for SUNY. The Director
is accountable for establishing and driving the overall strategy, goals, and objectives
for SPA, ensuring operational excellence, and maximizing institutional competitiveness
for over a $325M+ growing research portfolio. The Senior Director collaborates across
all academic, administrative, and clinical units to advance Stony Brook’s research
mission and serves as a key strategic partner to the Vice President for Research,
Vice President for Research Operations, senior leadership, directly impacting the
growth and compliance profile of the university's research enterprise.
This role requires a seasoned executive with deep expertise in grants, contracts (including
Federal Acquisition Regulations or FAR), clinical trials, and intellectual property
terms. The Senior Director is charged with proactively conducting the highest-level
analysis on changes in federal regulations (like Uniform Guidance), helping to set
university-wide research administration policy, and leading organizational efforts
to identify and mitigate high-level institutional risk of non-compliance and audit
findings. The Senior Director champions a culture of high-quality service, ensures
seamless integration between the university's central administrative units, and serves
as a primary liaison and advocate for Stony Brook's research interests with major
federal, state, and private funding agencies.
The Office of Proposal Development is one of seven units within the OVPR, whose mission
is to support Stony Brook’s research and scholarly community in its pursuit of extramural
funding by fostering collaborations with partners.
The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
and will exercise strong organizational skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential for this
role. A successful candidate will be comfortable undertaking a collaborative approach
to problem solving and should be capable of effectively multi-tasking in a fast-paced,
deadline-driven environment with a high degree of accuracy and organization. The successful

The Research Development Associate will have excellent analytical and problem-solving
skills and an interest in applying them to growing Stony Brook's research enterprise.
It is essential for the Research Development Associate to have strong verbal and written
communication skills for a broad range of audiences, along with a basic understandingof university operations and the Higher Education landscape in the United States.
The successful incumbent will have demonstrated leadership experience that exhibits
a marked sense of initiative, flexibility to work on projects outside of scientific
expertise, and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders. They will
also possess a strong understanding of opportunities for scientific research to support
a broad range of policy decisions, and possess an interest in applying technical expertise
to relevant societal issues.
The Senior Licensing Associate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of technologies
in the engineering and physical sciences, including identifying, evaluating, marketing
and licensing inventions and software developed by SUNY Stony Brook and Research Foundation
faculty and staff. The incumbent is responsible for such activities being conducted
under optimal financial and legal conditions and in compliance with the SUNY patent
and copyright policy and sponsor regulations. Ideally, the successful incumbent must
have technology transfer experience, a proven track record of successfully negotiating
intellectual property license agreements, other complex agreements (e.g., sponsored
research agreements, collaboration agreements or equity agreements) and demonstrated
experience drafting and reviewing contracts.
