Doctoral Hooding Ceremony

Spring 2026 Doctoral Hooding Ceremony: May 21, 2026 at 4 pm

Doctoral candidates who have completed their degree requirements by the Ceremony Registration deadline are eligible to participate in the May Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. August, December and January candidates are permitted to attend the ceremony by emailing Doctoral Hooding. Additional information will be emailed to students who signed up for the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Please note: completion of the Graduation Application does not serve as registration for the May Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. Students will receive information on how to register for Doctoral Hooding after completing their application and being approved.

Master's Candidates and Departmental Ceremonies

Students earning their doctorate, masters degree or an advanced graduate certificate can find information about participating in University Commencement visit Conferences and Special Events' Commencement. For information regarding departmental ceremonies please visit the program website or ask the Graduate Program Director.

Preparing for Graduation: A Doctoral Hooding How-To

TASSEL ON THE LEFT

Make sure to have your tassel on the left of the mortarboard and remains there for the whole ceremony.

HOOD ON THE LEFT

For ease and elegance, drape the hood over your left arm until it's time to hand it to your advisor.

DOCTORAL HOODING STANCE

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and make sure your advisor is able to reach over your head to drape the hood.

AD FINEM

Congratulations! You have received your hood and are officially a doctor. Your diploma will be mailed to you 4 to 6 weeks after the Graduate School clears your record.
