Biography
Dr. Shahriar SheikhBahaei is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior. His laboratory
investigates the neural circuits and cellular mechanisms underlying voluntary motor
control, with particular emphasis on speech and vocalization, breathing, developmental
disorders, and neuron-glia interactions. His work examines how astrocytes modulate
neuronal circuits and contribute to the development and function of complex motor
behaviors. Before joining Stony Brook University, he led the Neuron-Glia Signaling
and Circuits Unit at the National Institutes of Health as an NIH Independent Research
