Biography

Jackie Collier’s research program is focused on improving the understanding of phytoplankton physiological ecology, population dynamics, community structure, and ecosystem roles by studying the individual microorganism in relation to its environment. The focus of one her projects is labyrinthulomycetes, which are fungus-like single-celled organisms that are abundant and widespread but not well understood physiologically or ecologically, yet play an important role in the decomposition of particular organic matter in the ocean.
