Biography
Dr. Plotkin received his bachelor’s degrees in biology and music from the University of Michigan, his PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA, and completed his postdoctoral work at Northwestern University. His research uses cutting-edge imaging and electrophysiology techniques to study the brain alterations that underly psychiatric and neurological disorders such as OCD and Parkinson’s disease. His lab is interested in understanding how changes in common brain chemicals (such as acetylcholine, dopamine and serotonin) can promote the brain circuit changes that cause symptoms. His lab is also interested in understanding how movement is shaped by factors such as stress and anxiety, a common issue in disorders such as OCD.
