Biography
Chenyu You is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics
and the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University, where he is a core
faculty member of the CVLab and the AI Institute and is affiliated with the Institute
for Advanced Computational Science (IACS). His research studies fundamental and applied
problems in computer vision and machine learning, with an emphasis on generalization
and the reliability of learning systems. His applied work spans healthcare, biomedical
imaging, and cognitive neuroscience.
He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Yale University in 2024; his
M.S. from Stanford University in 2019; and his B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
in 2017. He has also held research positions at Meta Fundamental AI Research (FAIR),
Google DeepMind, and Tencent AI Lab. He serves on the Medical Image Computing and
Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society and the SUNY AI Symposium Planning
Committee, and as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Medical
Image Analysis, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Pattern
Recognition, Transactions on Machine Learning Research, and Computerized Medical Imaging
and Graphics.
His honors include the AAAI'26 New Faculty Highlights, CPAL'26 Rising Stars Award,
ICML'25 Oral Presentation Award, EMBC'25 Top Paper Award, IEEE TMI'25 Distinguished
Associate Editor Certificate of Excellence, MICCAI'25 NIH Registration Grant, Tinker
Research Grant, Lambda Research Grant, Stony Brook President's Fast Impact Fund Award,
and Yale's George P. O'Leary Graduate Fellowship. He has been named among the World's
Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists by Stanford University since 2024, is a member of Sigma
Xi, and received Stony Brook's Excellence in Teaching Award in both Spring and Fall
2025.
