Biography

Oyeronke Oyewumi's primary areas of expertise are gender and race. Other focal areas include feminism and social inequality. She is the author of the book,  The Invention of Women: Making an African Sense of Western Gender Discourses, for which she received a Distinguished Book Award from the Sex and Gender Section of the American Sociological Association. In 2014, she received the Distinguished Africanist Award by the New York African Studies Association.

Service on Editorial Boards I am the editor of a new book series from Palgrave/ Macmillan titled Gender and Cultural Studies in Africa and Diaspora. I proposed the series to the press. My services include identifying new authors and manuscripts, reading proposals and reviewing manuscripts for the series. The contract for the first book has been signed and it is forthcoming. The tile of the book is "Spatial Literacy: Asante Women's Place Making" by Epifania Amoo-Adare 2011 - 2012
