Fotis Sotiropoulos’ research uses computational algorithms that enable virtual experiments and simulation-based engineering science for fluid mechanics in real-life environmental, renewable energy, and biological applications. His research projects have included work focused on wind turbines and farms, marine hydrokinetic turbines and farms, simulation of turbulence in natural aquatic environments, and medical devices and virtual surgery. One area of his medical research includes the fluid mechanics of heart valves and their replacements.
