Biography

Dr. Brittain Mahaffey is a licensed clinical psychologist, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Stony Brook University, Director of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program at Stony Brook Medicine, and lead for Women’s Mental Health Integration initiatives. She specializes in DBT, cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), exposure-based treatments, and trauma-informed care for individuals with emotion dysregulation, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, suicidality, self-harm, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Her research focuses on the development, adaptation, and dissemination of scalable behavioral interventions targeting suicide prevention, aggression and violence risk reduction, resilience, and treatment engagement across healthcare settings. Dr. Mahaffey earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completed internship training at the Northport VA Medical Center, postdoctoral training at Stony Brook Medicine, and is DBT-Linehan Board Certified.
