
Karen Buechner, Ed.D, is an adjunct professor of English who teaches undergraduate
and graduate courses in both English and in the Program of Writing and Rhetoric. She
has taught secondary English Language Arts for thirty years and has been an adjunct
instructor for the Graduate Education Program at Molloy University. She is also a
consultant for the OWL Teacher Center and Eastern Suffolk Boces. As a fellow of the
Long Island Writing Project, she has been instrumental in implementing professional
development in schools across Long Island. Her areas of teaching and research include
literacy education, particularly writing instruction, writing identity, learning-centered
environments, and classroom discourse. She has presented numerous professional workshops
on secondary literacy with a focus on writing identity and culturally responsive teaching.
