Putting Out Fires
Great job by the crew of "Engine 1" putting out this car fire!
Shortly after 8:00 PM, Engine 1 was dispatched to a report of a car fire and found the vehicle fully engulfed at the intersection of South Drive and Stony Brook Road. Fortunately the occupants were out of the car and the fire was quickly extinguished. There were no reported injuries. An investigation of the fire by Scott Gershowitz, Deputy Fire Chief and Program Manager, determined that the probable cause was related to wiring of an accessory that had recently been installed on the vehicle. Engine 1, our "newest" fire apparatus, was just put into service this week and is already hard at work. The 2004 truck, manufactured by E-One, is a "Quint" engine/ladder combination unit. It has a 75' aerial ladder, holds 500 gallons of water and a 2,000 GPM pump. The truck was recently purchased from the Setauket Fire Department and underwent a "facelift" with new lettering and graphics showing that we are "Home of the Seawolves"! The F&ES crew worked hard to outfit the truck and complete their in-depth training before putting it into service.
