Priorities

  1. Promote an integrated and shared environment through technology, policy and culture for effective data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  2. Develop a culture of communication that educates stakeholders and empowers them to make evidence-based improvements.
  3. Advance efforts to enhance student, faculty and staff success through the development of new data sources, analytical approaches, and communication strategies.
  4. Support the University Strategic Plan Our Moment and strategic efforts of the Office of the President and Office of the Provost through the collection, analysis, and communication of key data and metrics.

Braden Hosch is the Vice President for Educational & Institutional Effectiveness at Stony Brook University where he aligns efforts to advance effectiveness at the university.  He oversees the Office of Institutional Research, Planning & Effectiveness; the Office of Educational Effectiveness; and Enterprise Data and Analytics. In addition, he serves as Stony Brook's Accreditation Liaison Officer with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, leads data governance initiatives, and oversees monitoring of strategic plan metrics.

Braden serves on the Data Policy Advisory Panel of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and also serves on the Data Policy Advisory Committee for the Commission for Information Management and Analysis (CIMA) of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU). He has previously served as a national educator on Federal data collection policies and practices, the Treasurer of the Board for AIR, the Finance Chair of the Steering Committee for the Northeast Association for Institutional Research (NEAIR), an appointed member of the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative, and an Executive Committee member for CIMA.  He holds a PhD and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MA from the University of Texas-Dallas, and a BA from Swarthmore College.

Sean Hoffman is the Assistant Director for Analytics in the Division of Educational & Institutional Effectiveness. He is responsible for design and implementation of  Stony Brook Analytics Tableau dashboards, as well as the training of University personnel in their use. He provides data and analysis to assist the University in benchmarking, reporting, and strategic planning. Sean also serves as an Institutional representative to the Association of American Universities (AAU) Data Exchange and has served as an at large Council Member.

Sean’s professional interests include student success, strategic analytics, and data visualization techniques. He has presented on data visualization at the Association for Institutional Research Annual Forums, and advanced Tableau techniques at AAU Data Exchange Annual Meetings.

Sean received his B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Stony Brook University. He is a proud alumnus of the Spirit of Stony Brook Athletic Bands, a member Phi Beta Kappa and a recipient of the Ward Melville Valedictorian Award for Stony Brook University's Class of 2012.
