Initiatives

Dual-Credit and the Accelerated College Education program

Initiative: Promote access and affordability to undergraduate credit curriculum for NYS high school students through the expansion of of Stony Brook University’s Accelerated College Education (ACE) program.
The ACE program provides opportunities for NYS students to earn SBU college credit while in high school. We plan to rapidly expand the program over the next three to five years through a combination of adding new high school partners  and adding new SBU academic courses/departments. ACE helps bend the cost curve of higher education, strengthens the ties between a high school teachers and university faculty in subject-aligned ways, and positively contributes to student confidence about successfully making the transition from high school to college.

Pre-College Programs

Initiative: Reduce the inequity of awareness about the vast array of exceptional pre-college program opportunities that exist at Stony Brook University.

Pre-college programs at Stony Brook come in a variety of shapes and sizes, offered throughout the academic year and during the summer. CPOE works to increase discoverability and affordability of these programs and expand access across the full range of SBU pre-college offerings. Our goal is to continue inspiring the minds and hearts of K-12 students through experiential learning and undergraduate research experiences that leverage SBU's academic areas of excellence and reflect collaborations with key academic partners, K-12 institutions, and community stakeholders.

Teacher Education

Initiative: Amplify the enormous success of the teacher education program at Stony Brook University through the School of Professional Development.
This uniquely structured program has developed a well-earned reputation for producing some of the best middle and high school teachers across Long Island and the state of New York. Working with colleagues across the campus, we will work to leverage our extensive relationships with teachers and educational administrators across Long Island to ensure that they, their students, and their students’ families, are more aware of the opportunities and SBU program pathways that stand ready to educate the next generation of teachers.

Lifelong Learning and Continuing Education

Initiative: Promote and support programs that contribute to community-based inter-generational and lifelong learning, and continuing education workforce development programs
Our efforts include making visible and celebrating the accomplishments of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Stony Brook University, weekend community-based schools (the Institute for Creative Problem Solving, School Nova, the Center for Chinese Learning at Stony Brook, and the German School) and looking for unique ways to strengthen the bonds and intersectionality between these community-rich organizations and SBU faculty, researchers, students, and staff. We also stand ready to explore ways that Stony Brook University can help NYS business and organizations address their human capital and workforce development challenges through professional and continuing education.
