As the Associate Director of University and Medicine Community Relations, Erika serves as a liaison between Stony Brook University, Stony Brook Medicine, and neighboring communities. She assists in the development and implementation of community relations initiatives, programs and events such as CommUniversity Day and the HOPE Program.
Before joining the Government and Community Relations Office in May 2022, Erika spent nearly seven years at Stony Brook University’s School of Communication and Journalism, where she focused on student recruitment and outreach. She began her professional career as a reporter and editor at Times Beacon Record Newspapers.
Erika sits on the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County – the same council she belonged to as a former Girl Scout and Gold Award recipient. She is also a member of the Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Community Advisory Council.
Erika is a proud two-time Stony Brook University alumna holding a master’s degree in higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Favorite SBU Tradition: Midnight scream!
Favorite place off campus: I'm a lifelong North Shore resident, so I love any place by the water. Short Beach in Nissequogue or Satterly Landing Park in Mount Sinai are two favorite places.
What do you love about SBU?: I love how Stony Brook is a world of opportunity for everyone. There’s so much happening here and I hope that our communities - both on and off campus - explore the opportunities and resources available right in their backyard.
