Eligible Students
- Full-time undergraduates majoring in a STEM discipline at Stony Brook University (see list of eligible STEM majors below)
- Preferably have a GPA 3.0 or higher. Exceptional students with GPA's below 3.0 will be considered.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- LSAMP supports broadening participation from groups that have been historically underrepresented (African American, Latinx, American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders, etc.) in STEM disciplines
Eligible Majors
Majors in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and/or Astronomy (AST), Biology (BIO), Biochemistry (BCH), Chemistry (CHE), Earth and Space Sciences (ESS), Engineering Chemistry (ECM), Geology (GEO), Physics (PHY), Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATM), Environmental Studies (ENS), Marine Science (MAR), and Marine Vertebrate Biology (MVB). LSAMP is not open to students who are intending to pursue studies in medicine, nursing, or other clinical fields
Student Selection/Applying to program
Potential LSAMP students are identifiied by the admissions office after they are accepted to Stony Brook University. The LSAMP leadership team directly reaches out to eligible students in the spring/summer before the students matriculate and asks the students to apply to LSAMP.
