B
  • B-ROLL: Supplemental or secondary footage used in a video to complement the primary footage. B-roll often includes cutaways establishing shots or close-ups that help illustrate the narrative or context.

  • Hero Image: A hero image is the primary image or sliding images on your homepage.

  • Media pitch: Concise and targeted communication sent to a journalist or media outlet aiming to persuade them to cover a specific story event or angle. The goal of a media pitch is to capture the journalist's attention spark interest and prompt them to further explore the story or conduct an interview.
  • Motion Graphics: Animated visuals often including text logos or symbols that are integrated into a video to enhance storytelling or provide key information (e.g. lower-thirds data visualizations intro/outro animations).

  • Pre-Production: The phase of video production that occurs before filming begins. It involves planning scripting storyboarding and organizing logistics.

  • Rough Cut: An early version of the video that is assembled from the raw footage (A-roll B-roll etc.) before final edits effects color correction or audio mixing. It’s often shown to stakeholders for feedback.

  • SEO: SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO refers to the practices and strategies web designers use to help a website appear on search engines i.e. Google Bing etc.
  • Snippet: A snippet is a digital widget or visual display we incorporate into the website. For examples of snippets we commonly use on our websites please visit Stony Brook’s Snippet Library.
  • Standby Statement: Pre-prepared statement that is issued by an organization in anticipation of a potential crisis issue or event. It is designed to be used quickly when necessary providing a clear consistent and immediate response to the media stakeholders or the public.
  • Storyboard: ​A visual representation of how a video will unfold. Includes a plan for the video’s structure composition and transitions. It is typically created after a pre-production meeting.
