Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (GWISE) Showcasing Women's Research in STEM

 

Professor Heather Lynch and STRIDE Program Coordinator, Jennifer McCauley attended the Graduate Women in Science & Engineering (GWISE) Women in Research showcase on Friday, April 6 as guest panelists.

Women graduate students presented their research, engaged in a panel discussion and presented during the subsequent poster session. Professor Lynch and Dr. McCauley were invited to be part of the panel discussion based on their accomplishments and success in the field of science. Other panelists included Professor Aruna Balasubramanian of Computer Science and Melanie Chiu of Chemistry.

PanelThe panelists shared their personal accounts of how they got to where they are now, and the unique struggles they have faced as women in the field of science. Current graduate students sought advice on how to navigate academia. Professor Lynch and Dr. McCauley shared stories of starting families, negotiating salaries, and balancing work and home life. 

 

 

 Following the discussion, the panelists enjoyed evaluating the research posters and engaging with the students on their projects.
