Gary Kaczmarczyk

Gary Kaczmarczyk is the Associate Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety. He began his career at Stony Brook in 1994 as the Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety and was then promoted to Director in 2005. He serves as the University's Safety Officer and is the Responsible Official for Select Agents, serves on the University Radiation Protection Committee (URPC), the Laboratory Safety Council and the Provost's Risk Assessment and Security Committee.

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Gary served as Co-Emergency Management Coordinator to develop and implement an Emergency Management Plan and recommendations for the President’s Emergency Task Force. He continues to work closely with the University Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management to plan campus events and serves on the Emergency Management Committee.

Gary has a Master of Science degree in Technological Systems Management from Stony Brook and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of New Haven, CT. He is a NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official, past president of the American Society of Safety Engineers,  member of Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association, the SEHSA Environmental Health and  Safety Association of NY, and the National Safety Council.
