Group Therapy

We offer group therapy courses each year in February, July and September.  The number and type of courses offered varies each term.  They meet once per week and range in duration from 10 to 18 weeks.

Below is a list of what we typically offer:

Depressive Disorders Group (18 sessions; 12 weeks)

Goals of the program:

  • Positive cognitive-behavioral changes, more effective behavior, improvement in mood/affect
  • Increasing positive view of self and sense of control in interpersonal domains

Social Anxiety Group (10 sessions; 10 weeks)

Goals of the program:

  • Understand how social anxiety works
  • Real lifeexposures to overcome avoidance behaviors and reduce social anxiety
  • Social skills training to increase comfort and confidence in social situations

ADHD/Organizational/Executive Functioning Group (10 Sessions; 10 weeks)  

Goals of the program:

  • Understand the cognitive, behavioral and emotional aspects of ADHD
  • Learn new skills, like time management, prioritizing tasks, and optimal study habits to improve functioning across domains (e.g., academic performance, day-to-day activities)
  • Learn to manage better problems of attention and hyperactivity for students with ADHD
  • Peer support to increase motivation to change and confidence in social situations

Healthy Kids Group (12 Sessions;12 weeks)

Goals of the program:

  • Help children and their parents live a healthier life
  • Foster the development of several skills, including identifying healthy and non-healthy eating patterns, problem-solving and coping skills, and practicing fun physical activities. 
  • Parents are involved with the group to learn strategies to better help their children at home

Transitioning to college: Overcoming Psychological Hurdles (10 Sessions; 10 weeks)

Goals of the program:

  • Prevent and ameliorate a wide range of psychological problems that accompany the transition to college
  • Use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy strategies as a tool for coping with depression and anxiety
  • Use mindfulness meditation approaches as a tool for coping with distress and stressful daily experiences

Academic Performance Anxiety (10 Sessions; 10 weeks)

Goals of the Program:

  • Learn about the nature of academic anxiety (e.g., test taking anxiety, anxiety about specific academic subjects, avoiding classes, distress over academic performance)
  • Learn to manage academic tasks in an efficient and productive manner
  • Learn effective study/test-taking skills, and how to compensate for learning issues
