SECOND DOSE VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

Second Dose COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement

As you are aware, in addition to the requirement for covered employees to receive their first dose of the vaccine by September 27, the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order states that all hospitals and nursing homes must “continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” The order broadly defines “personnel” as “all persons employed or affiliated with a covered entity, whether paid or unpaid, including, but not limited to, employees, members of the medical and nursing staff, contract staff, students, and volunteers, who engage in activities such that if they were infected with COVID-19, they could potentially expose patients, residents, or personnel working for such entity to the disease.” 

Therefore, all covered employees who have not yet received their second vaccine in a two-dose vaccine series must get their second dose, ideally in accordance with the vaccine protocol timelines (three weeks post 1st dose for Pfizer or four weeks post 1st dose for Moderna), but no later than 30 days following their first dose. Evidence of the second dose must be presented to Human Resources on or before 5pm on the 30th calendar day following the first dose.  Those who do not comply by the deadline will be referred to Employee and Labor Relations.
