Nurse Practitioner - C&L (Psychiatry)

Required Qualifications

Current NYS RN Licensure, Master's degree in Nursing, NYS certification as an in the area of specialty. Must hold current Board Certification by start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent NP/Consult liaison experience in a psych environment and med/Surg NYS certification as an Adult NP with a Psych NP certification (dual certification). Previous teaching experience and involvement in community organizations. Five years' experience in Nursing to include two years of appropriate specialty experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Consultation and Liaison Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing psychiatric assessments, psychopharmacological, non-pharmacological and level-of-care recommendations for individuals admitted to hospital medicine units with psychiatric and substance use co-morbidity. The candidate will have the following responsibilities:

Evaluate in a timely manner and directly treat patients, in collaboration with an attending psychiatrist, with a wide range of psychiatric problems presenting in acute medical and settings.
Communicate results of evaluations, treatments and recommendations to primary medical and surgical teams through verbal communication and documentation in the electronic medical record.
Provide patients with supportive psychotherapy and motivational enhancement towards health behavior change.
Work directly with nurses and nurse manager on medical/surgical units to evaluate for appropriate continuation or discontinuation of 1:1, safety watches and restraints initiated in response to unsafe behaviors.
Obtain collateral history from families and professional providers for accurate assessment.
Facilitate transfers between medical/surgical wards and inpatient psychiatry units.
Provide ongoing education and psychological support to medical/surgical nurses, including in the management of delirium, and of patients with disruptive behaviors.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
